RESIDENTIAL PLAZA’S ELDERLY NEED A GENERATOR

Assistance to the Elderly launches a capital campaign to raise funds to upgrade Residential Plaza’s generator.

Miami, Florida, May 3, 2019, /- Florida is home to a wide array of natural disasters, hurricanes, tropical storms, tropical depressions, tornadoes, wildfires, and floods that regularly affect residents.

Due to damage experience during the 2017 hurricane season, Governor, Rick Scott, issued the Governor’s Emergency Rules requiring all assisted living facilities to have emergency generators to provide a minimum of 20 square feet per resident at 81 degrees or less. This mandate is especially challenging for Residential Plaza at Blue Lagoon, a 14-story facility with 350 beds, including 54 residents diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and other dementia-related disorders who live within our Memory Care Program.

Residential Plaza at Blue Lagoon provides an affordable home with assisted living services so that 350 elders can live in a safe, caring, and supportive environment while maintaining their dignity, independence, and purpose. Seventy percent (70%) of Residential Plaza’s residents are low-income older adults.

Residential Plaza must comply with the Governor’s Emergency Rules or risks losing its license, which translates into displacing 350 elderly in our community, including 54 diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and other dementia-related disorders who live at our Memory Care Program.

Currently, Assistance to the Elderly is committed to provide its constituents with a safer environment during emergencies by upgrading their generator and comply with the Governor’s Emergency Rules.

“During a situation of natural disaster not only the residents at Residential Plaza are counting with us, but their families, making a difference in their lives by giving them peace of mind knowing that their loved one is well taken care of,” said Barbara Galindo, Residential Plaza’s Administrator. “We have always gone above, and beyond to provide a safe environment to our residents to enable them to live dignified and independent lives, we will do due diligence to be true to our mission in all situations”, Galindo said.

Please help us provide a safe environment for low-income older adults in our community by supporting our initiative. For more information visit: https://residentialplaza.com/generator/
