CUBAN NIGHT FOR ALZHEIMER’S CELEBRATES ITS 10TH ANNIVERSARY

Assistance to the Elderly and its affiliate, Residential Plaza, keep raising funds to benefit low-income older adults in our community diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and other dementia-related disorders.

Miami, Florida, June 26, 2019, /- Assistance to the Elderly is a non-profit in our community that enables low-income older adults to lead meaningful and dignified lives by providing safe supportive housing through its affiliate, Residential Plaza, the largest assisted living community in Florida with 350 licensed beds.

“At Residential Plaza, 350 older adults in our community find a home with supportive services, enabling them to live dignified lives by keeping their independence and purpose”, said Luisana Hung Salazar, Development Director. “Among our 350 residents, we have 54 residents living at the Memory Care Program, people diagnosed with Alzheimer’s and other dementia-related disorders. Memory Care is among the highest levels of care, making it an expensive and sometimes unaffordable level of care. Many families must keep their loved ones at home because they can’t financially access this level of care. At Assistance to the Elderly and our affiliate, Residential Plaza, we are committed to bringing all levels of care to low-income older adults in our community regardless of their financial situation”, said Hung Salazar. “Events like Cuban Night for Alzheimer’s assist us in raising funds to provide subsidies under the Rental Assistance Program to help families cover the gap between their financial possibility and the level of care their loved one requires,” said Barbara Galindo, Administrator.

This year Cuban Night for Alzheimer’s celebrates its 10th Anniversary, and it’s going to be bigger and better than ever. The Donna E. Shalala Student Center of the University of Miami will get transformed into a Cuban Carnival on Friday, November 22, 2019, where the celebration starts at 7:00 PM. “This year we want to go big to celebrate a significant milestone not only for the event but for what the event means for our community, the opportunity to provide affordable care to low-income older adults in our community diagnosed with Alzheimer’s,” said Sandra Pubchara, Outreach Coordinator for Residential Plaza.

“Our annual fundraising event, Cuban Night for Alzheimer’s is well attended by the health industry and community leaders, volunteers, as well as general public that supports our mission,” said Hung Salazar. A night full of live music by Alain Garcia y su Latin Power Band, food, Chinese Auction, tobacco bar, and much more!

Alzheimer’s is the 6th leading cause of death in the USA. More than 5 million Americans are living with Alzheimer’s today, and by 2050 that number could get as high as 16 million. One way or another, at some point, we are or will be affected by this disease.  “We invite the community to participate, the corporate community of South Florida to have an active role shaping our community to make it diverse and inclusive, providing care and services for all, especially the most vulnerable in our society, low-income older adults diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, said Hung Salazar.
