In April we celebrate National Volunteer Week Health Care

Volunteering is a selfless act. Volunteering enriches our society, brings us together as a community, and it helps to minimize the impact of many issues in our communities. Volunteers are an integral part of our society, and we are all called to give back, to get involved in our communities.

However, volunteering does much more for us than we know, volunteering decreases depression, gives the individual a feel-good sensation, creates a feeling of fulfillment and belonging, promotes an active mind and body, reduces stress and provides the opportunity to find and develop fulfilling connections.

Woman are more likely than a man to volunteer. 35% of people volunteer at religious organizations, 25% participate in education or youth services, and 14% volunteer at social or community-based establishments.

One reason people hesitate to get involved with volunteering is that they don’t know where to start. Assistance to the Elderly brings many opportunities for individuals in our community to get involved and engage within different activities providing services and care for the elderly. Also, the assisted living facility owned by Assistance to the Elderly, Residential Plaza, offers opportunities for individuals in the community and most importantly for its residents to volunteer to keep a sense of purpose and dignity.
